Almost Ready for Adoption

Their Journey So Far

1. Freedom Day

   September 2, 2026

   Terrified dogs don't have much of a chance in a crowded shelter. They don't run to the front of the kennel wagging their tails and giving kisses; they hide in the back, trying to disappear, while the friendlier, more confident dogs get noticed. That was Ginger and her daughter Annie, and we knew they were running out of time. Then we got a text that changed everything: Ginger had given birth to three tiny puppies. We didn't even know she was pregnant. A shelter is no place for a terrified new mama and her newborn babies, so we immediately started making calls, coordinating with the shelter, lining up a foster, and figuring out how to make it happen. And we did. That same day, Ginger and all three of her babies walked out of the shelter, and Annie was carried out through those freedom doors right behind them. One day in, Ginger and her puppies are doing beautifully. It took a village to pull this off: shelter staff and volunteers, a foster who said yes, and supporters whose donations cover the food, supplies, and veterinary care. 2. Meet the Castaways

   September 7, 2026

   This Labor Day, we want to celebrate fair labor laws and laborers, from Ginger and her babies: a loving mama who just went through labor. And it's time to formally introduce the three tiniest members of The Comeback Pack. Mama Ginger gave us two boys and one girl, and naturally, we had to give this little crew names worthy of their adventure: Mary Ann, our one and only girl; Gilligan, the littlest boy; and Skipper, his bigger brother. We're happy to report that everyone is doing amazing. The babies are eating and growing, and Mama is eating well and taking such wonderful care of her little beans. Right now, their days consist mostly of eating, sleeping, snuggling, and being ridiculously tiny. But before we know it, those little eyes will open, those wobbly legs will get moving, and our three little beans will turn into actual puppies with personalities of their own. We have a feeling these babies are going to be something special. They have an incredibly gentle mama and have been safely and appropriately handled with love literally since the day they were born. They'll be ready for adoption in about seven weeks, but for now, we get the absolute joy of watching them grow.

3. A Little Bigger Every Day

   September 13, 2026

   Ginger and her babies — Gilligan, Skipper, and Mary Ann — are doing amazing. The puppies have grown so much already: fat, happy, snuggly little potatoes whose tiny eyes should start opening any day now. Mama Ginger is doing beautifully too, eating, drinking, and taking incredible care of her babies. She's still very shy, so we've intentionally kept her world small while she learned that she was safe. Now that she's been with us almost two weeks, it's time to slowly start expanding that world — a few minutes of fresh air outside her whelping room at a time. She may not love it yet, but building her confidence is the next step in her comeback. And despite her fear, Ginger is incredibly gentle and trusting with us; when we check on her babies, she'll actually lift her leg so we can reach them more easily. One other thing we've learned: Ginger and Annie aren't actually a bonded pair. They clung to each other at the shelter out of fear, but both are doing wonderfully apart — Annie has blossomed on her own, and both girls love other dogs without needing to be adopted together. The puppies will be ready for adoption at around 8 weeks old, with preference given to local adopters since they'll need to be spayed or neutered between 4 and 6 months. No more unwanted litters on our watch.

   

4. Their Eyes Are Open

   September 15, 2026

   Mama Ginger and her three babies — Gilligan, Skipper, and Mary Ann — are doing great! Ginger is still very, very shy, but she trusts us, and that's a start. We're continuing to keep her world small and quiet and letting her move at her own pace. Meanwhile, her babies are thriving: all three opened their eyes right at the two-week mark, they're getting plumper by the day, and it's very clear their mama is taking excellent care of them. For now, their days consist mostly of eat, sleep, grow, repeat. And we are perfectly happy to watch.

   

5. Chonky Castaways

   September 26, 2026

   Gilligan, Skipper and Mary Ann are getting chonky, just the way we like our puppies. These three are healthy, happy, ridiculously snuggly, and getting cuter by the day. Their tiny teeth are starting to come in, which means Ginger will likely begin weaning them over the next 2 to 3 weeks. And then comes the part we can hardly believe: at 8 to 10 weeks old, these babies will be ready to find their forever homes. We've watched them go from tiny newborns with their eyes closed to chonky, cuddly little puppies with personalities starting to emerge, and we are so excited to eventually watch each of them head off to a family of their own. And sweet Ginger: she continues to be an absolutely incredible mama. She's still shy, but underneath that shyness is one of the gentlest, sweetest dogs you could ever meet. And we have such a soft spot for the gentle ones. For now, Ginger is still busy raising her babies, and Gilligan, Skipper and Mary Ann are busy eating, snuggling, growing tiny teeth and stealing hearts. Their comeback is just getting started.

6. Ginger's Turn

   October 7, 2026

   Ginger has been the best mama. From day one, she has been gentle, calm, and completely trusting with her babies. She has always let us handle them without a single issue, just quietly watching while we loved on her little family. Now we're starting to see Ginger's personality emerge, too. She's a shy girl, and new situations can still be scary for her. But lately, she's been choosing to come closer. She's engaging with us more. She's seeking out affection. And watching her realize that people can be safe, and that being loved actually feels pretty good, is the sweetest thing. She's being so brave. Now that her puppies are weaning, Ginger will get more and more time to simply be a dog instead of being Mama. To explore. To relax. To soak up affection. And to figure out what she likes. Her babies are growing up, and now it's Ginger's turn to have a little comeback of her own. Ginger is not yet available for adoption but will be available for foster in about a week.

   

7. Ginger and Her Babies Are Available

   October 26, 2026

   Mama Ginger and her three adorable babies, Mary Ann, Skipper and Gilligan, are officially available for adoption and ready to find their forever families! This is going to sound like a lie, but we haven't received a single application for any of Ginger's babies. At just 8 weeks old, these puppies are already off to an incredible start in life, thanks in large part to their amazing mama. Ginger is genuinely one of the sweetest dogs on the planet. She's a little shy, exceedingly gentle, and doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She's been an absolutely wonderful mother, and now it's her turn to be loved and spoiled by a family of her own. Her babies have been lovingly handled and socialized with people since day one, and they're happy, affectionate, well-socialized puppies who are great with kids, cats and other dogs. Because the babies are still so young, we're looking for families where someone is home the majority of the day. Preference will be given to local adopters, as the puppies still need to complete their spay/neuter procedures when they're old enough. And please don't overlook Mama Ginger! She's spent the last eight weeks being everything her babies needed, and we'd love nothing more than to see someone make her the center of their world.

8. Her Future Belongs to Her

   October 30, 2026

   For the first time in a long time, Ginger's future belongs to her. Today, our sweet Ginger was spayed. After enduring multiple unwanted litters, this beautiful girl will never have to give birth in a scary place again. Her days of being a mama are officially behind her, and now it's her turn to be someone's baby. Ginger is shy and timid, and we suspect that's part of why she was overlooked at the shelter. She isn't going to rush up to a stranger and shower them with kisses. But underneath that shyness is one of the gentlest, most peaceful souls we've ever met. She's quiet, easygoing and incredibly sweet, and she doesn't need long hikes, constant entertainment or a busy household. She's perfectly happy just being near her people. She's wonderful with dogs of all sizes and cats, shows no separation anxiety or prey drive, and is low-key and not particularly vocal. Another dog helps build her confidence. She may take a little time to warm up, but she absolutely wants love, even if she's a little scared to ask for it. For someone who loves a quiet, gentle, unassuming companion, Ginger might be everything they've been looking for. She's spent so much of her life taking care of her babies. Now we'd love to see someone make her their baby.

9. Ginger and Sadie, Zero Applications

   November 5, 2026

   Some of the sweetest dogs are the ones who don't know how to ask for attention. Meet Ginger and Sadie. These beautiful girls are a little shy, and in an overcrowded shelter, that meant they faded into the background. But we saw past their shyness, took a chance on them, and oh my goodness, were we right! These girls are absolute gems: sweet, gentle, loving, and so incredibly deserving of wonderful homes. They're house trained, crate trained, toddler friendly, dog friendly, cat friendly, and 100% certified sweethearts. Both girls are in foster care, waiting for someone to choose them. All they need is someone willing to give them a little time to warm up. And trust us, if you can give them a little patience in the beginning, they'll make the rest easy for you. Before you know it, you'll be head over heels wondering how you ever lived without them.

10. The Sweetest Little Wallflower

    November 6, 2026

    Ginger, the sweetest little wallflower waiting to bloom. She's 3 years old, 45 pounds, gentle, sweet and just a little shy. Nobody even knew Ginger was pregnant. Then one day, in the middle of a noisy, overcrowded shelter, she gave birth to three tiny puppies. Despite being frightened and unsure of her new surroundings, Ginger was the gentlest, most devoted mama. She trusted us with her babies from day one. In fact, whenever we needed to weigh her little nursing potatoes, Ginger would actually lift her leg to make it easier for us to scoop them up. She raised three beautiful, healthy puppies, and she's now spayed and officially retired from motherhood. After taking such wonderful care of her babies, it's finally Ginger's turn to be the one who's loved and doted on. In foster care, Ginger has lived peacefully with a toddler, dogs, and cats. She's crate trained, gentle, kind, quiet, and sweet with absolutely everyone. Now, we should tell you something about Ginger: she's shy. She's not the dog who's going to run up to you at a meet and greet and demand your attention. She's more of a shrinking violet, quietly observing and figuring out whether it's safe to let her guard down. But please don't mistake her shyness for a lack of love to give. This girl has a heart of gold. She just needs someone patient enough to let her show it. We're looking for someone who will give her the time, security, and affection she deserves, and let her discover just how wonderful it feels to be somebody's baby. Give this little wallflower a chance to blossom. We promise she's worth getting to know.
