Their Journey So Far

1. Freedom Day

   September 2, 2026

   Terrified dogs don't have much of a chance in a crowded shelter. They don't run to the front of the kennel wagging their tails and giving kisses; they hide in the back, trying to disappear, while the friendlier, more confident dogs get noticed. That was Annie and her mom Ginger, and we knew they were running out of time. Then Ginger gave birth to three tiny puppies, and getting a terrified new mama and her newborns out of the shelter became an emergency. We made it happen that same day. But saving Ginger meant leaving Annie behind: the daughter who had been terrified alongside her mom would suddenly be sitting in that kennel terrified and completely alone. If you've known us for any length of time, you already know what happened next. There was no way we were leaving Annie behind, so she was carried through those freedom doors, too. It has only been one day, and Annie is already coming out of her shell and discovering that living in a house is actually pretty wonderful. We get emotional thinking about how differently this could have ended. Instead, an entire family is safe tonight.

2. Spayed and Almost Ready

   September 11, 2026

   Goodbye potential baby mama era, hello fun aunty era: Annie is spayed, and she'll officially be available for adoption very soon! In just over a week, this girl has gone from hiding at the back of a shelter kennel to settling into foster life like she's always belonged there. She's everything you could want in a dog, and she's ready to give a family her all.

3. The Real Annie

   September 13, 2026

   At the shelter, Annie wasn't just shy — she was pancake-scared, making herself as small as possible and needing to be carried from place to place. Even then, her sweetness was impossible to miss, and shelter staff worked hard to help her gain confidence. But in an overcrowded shelter, that wasn't enough to get her noticed, and she started running out of time. Then something shocked us: within two days of arriving in her foster home, Annie was acting like a completely different dog. Her tail hasn't stopped wagging since. She's playful, affectionate, goofy, and an expert snuggler once she trusts you — house trained, crate trained, and great with other dogs and cats. There's just one thing her future family needs to know: Annie needs a little time with new people before she shows you who she really is. Trust is something you earn with her, and it's absolutely worth earning. We believe her person is out there — someone who doesn't need her love immediately and is willing to wait for it. Annie is officially available for adoption now.

   

4. Worth the Wait

   September 21, 2026

   Annie keeps getting overlooked, and we know exactly why: she's shy. That's it — that's the whole catch. She's not going to run up and climb into a stranger's lap at a meet and greet; she needs a little time to decide you're safe. When adopters have several wonderful dogs to choose from, the shy one is easy to pass over, but they're missing out on an incredible dog. Once Annie feels safe, you get to see who she really is: an unbelievably gentle, affectionate, snuggly girl with one of the sweetest natures we've ever seen. At about 31 pounds, she's a petite, perfect size for all kinds of homes, calm but playful, and incredibly gentle and submissive with both dogs and cats. She's fully crate trained and still working on her leash skills — but those are things you can teach. That soft, loving nature isn't something you can teach. That's just Annie. She may not show you everything she has to offer in the first 20 minutes. Give her a little time, and we think you'll wonder how anyone ever passed her by.

5. A Trip to the Park

   September 27, 2026

   The girl who once tried to make herself invisible is learning that the world isn't such a scary place after all. Volunteer Blake took Annie to the park for a couple of hours, and it was their very first time meeting. They walked, they sat, they relaxed — Annie smelled all the smells, watched the world go by, and simply got to breathe some fresh air. If you'd seen a photo of Annie when we first met her, balled up as small as she could make herself in the corner of her kennel, you might not believe this is the same dog. She's still a little shy at first, but she warms up quickly, and once she does, she's affectionate, snuggly, and incredibly sweet. We'd especially love to see Annie in a home with another friendly dog — other dogs give her confidence and help show her that everything's okay. Give this girl a little time to feel safe, and we think you'll see exactly why she's worth it.

6. A Young Dog With an Old Soul

   October 2, 2026

   Annie McPhee has the sweetest little soul. She's petite, gentle, affectionate, and one of those dogs who seems to take everything in quietly before deciding, "Okay, I can do this." And lately, Annie has been doing so much. In foster care she's experienced all kinds of things, and with every new experience her confidence has grown. Car rides? She's doing great. Leash walks? An absolute champ. Toddlers? Gentle and sweet. Cats? Respectful and loving. Dogs? She loves them. She can still be shy when meeting new people, so she may not be the dog who runs up and demands your attention, but give her a little time to realize she's safe and her personality starts to shine. She's loving, submissive, playful, gentle, and incredibly easy to adore. One thing we do know is that having another dog around gives her confidence, so we'd like her forever home to include at least one friendly canine companion. She's come so far, and now she's ready for someone to show her just how good the rest of her life can be.

7. If Gentle Had a Face

   October 6, 2026

   If gentle had a face, it might look a lot like Annie. This girl is just soft. She's calm, affectionate, incredibly sweet, and happiest snuggled up near her people or her furry friends. She's wonderful with other dogs. She's fantastic with cats. She's even gentle with toddlers. There's just something incredibly tender about this girl. And yes, Annie can still be a little shy when she first meets someone new, but you should have seen her before. She used to be terrified. The progress she has made is astounding, and every day we get to see more of the amazing dog that was hiding underneath all that fear. Now she's learning that people are safe, beds are wonderful, snuggles are even better, and life can actually be pretty darn good. Annie is a young dog with an old soul, and she is so ready for someone to fall in love with her.

8. Paws Touching

   October 8, 2026

   Annie McPhee is the kind of dog who holds hands with her friends. No, seriously. She's often found snoozing next to her foster sibling, paws touching, because apparently being adorable is a full-time job. Annie is one of the gentlest, sweetest souls you'll ever meet. She's wonderful with toddlers, dogs, and cats. She's house trained, calm, affectionate, and just an all-around amazing dog. No drama. No chaos. Just gentle vibes, sweet snuggles, and a whole lot of love. How this incredible girl hasn't been scooped up yet is beyond us!

   

9. Ready for Her Forever Family

   October 12, 2026

   If kindness had four legs and a tail, her name would be Annie McPhee. When Annie and Ginger arrived at the shelter, they were terrified. But the incredible shelter staff and volunteers were patient and loving, and they saw something special in these two girls. Then Ginger unexpectedly gave birth to three tiny puppies right there in the shelter. We knew we had to save Ginger and her babies, but there was simply no way we were leaving Annie behind. We believed she was Ginger's adult daughter, and she deserved her chance at happiness, too. Both girls were incredibly shy when we rescued them, but what we've witnessed since then has been nothing short of beautiful. Annie has blossomed into one of the gentlest, kindest, most extraordinary dogs we've ever known, and she's overcome every challenge with quiet courage and grace. And now? This girl is the total package. She's wonderful with dogs of all sizes, from tiny pups to big dogs. She's great with cats and has lived happily with several. She's amazing with children, including toddlers and babies. She's house trained and easygoing in the home, great on a leash, playful when it's time to play, calm when it's time to relax, and always ready to share her gentle affection. Annie can still be a little shy when she's getting comfortable somewhere new, so she'll need a family willing to give her a little patience as she settles in. But trust us, the love you get in return is worth every second. Dogs like Annie don't come along every day. Annie McPhee is ready for her forever family, and we can't wait to see her find them!

10. Sweetest Dog on Earth

    She's the best dog in the world, and nobody wants her. Okay, maybe that's a slight exaggeration. But honestly, it kind of feels that way because we don't have any adoption applications for Annie! And we just don't get it. Annie is a little shy when she first meets you, but once that initial hesitation melts away, she's like a little ray of sunshine. She's calm. She's incredibly gentle. She's affectionate without being overwhelming. And she has this beautiful, peaceful energy about her that's hard to put into words. She's great with dogs, cats and kids, house trained, walks beautifully on a leash, the perfect size at approximately 40 pounds, and sweet, easygoing, and an absolute joy to be around. There's just something about Annie. We swear this little girl has an aura. And we know that somewhere out there, someone watching this video is going to see exactly what we see. 11. Annie Met Her Forever Family

    Sometimes, the biggest transformations happen when someone believes in a dog who doesn't yet believe in herself. A couple of months ago, we rescued seven dogs from AFV. Among them were Annie and her mom, Ginger, two terrified girls who were struggling in the shelter environment. Their shyness made it difficult for potential adopters to see the wonderful dogs hiding beneath all that fear, and time was not on their side. We knew Annie had so much potential, and little by little, we started seeing it. She was making progress, learning to trust, and beginning to understand that the world wasn't such a scary place. And then something wonderful happened: Blake volunteered to foster Annie. Blake gave Annie exactly what she needed: patience, encouragement, love, and the opportunity to build confidence at her own pace. And under Blake's care, Annie didn't just improve. She absolutely blossomed. That brings us to the best news of all. Today, Annie met her forever family! Our sweet, once-terrified little girl is going home, to a family who sees the incredible dog we've come to know and love, and who will continue helping her grow, explore, and discover all the wonderful things life has to offer. Blake, we cannot thank you enough. You helped change the entire trajectory of Annie's life. This is what fostering can do. This is why it matters so much. And to our little village of rescuers, volunteers, supporters, and everyone who played a part in Annie's comeback: thank you. Together, we gave this little girl a life we're pretty sure she never even dreamed was possible. Happy tails, sweet Annie. Your comeback story just became your happily ever after.
