1. Freedom Day

   September 2, 2026

   Wednesday night, seven lives changed: Phoenix, Ginger and her three puppies, Annie, and last but certainly not least, Birdie. Birdie is a gentle Black Mouth Cur mix who won the heart of her foster mom almost immediately. Truth be told, her foster mom has such a big heart that she falls in love with all of them, but there was something special about this one. When we met Birdie, she immediately pressed her little body against her. We really believe dogs can sense kindness, and somehow Birdie seemed to know she had found her person. The only reason we were able to save Birdie is because a foster stepped up. She came to the shelter straight from work, met the dogs who needed us, and chose a long-timer who had been waiting far too long for someone to choose her.

2. Settling In

   September 4, 2026

   Just look at Birdie now. She has settled into her foster home like she's always belonged there. You can literally see the tension leaving her face. She's resting. She's snuggling. She's letting herself exhale. She knows she's safe. Birdie will be spayed next week, and then she'll officially be available for adoption. We're telling you now: this girl is a gem. Don't sleep on Birdie. Her comeback has officially begun.

   

3. Everything Went Right

   September 8, 2026

   Sometimes, everything goes right. So many things can go wrong for a shelter dog. But sometimes, everything comes together exactly the way it should. Birdie had been waiting at the shelter for a while when we let our shelter partners know we had a foster opening. Their response? "We know just the dog!" And they were right. Birdie is sweet, a little shy, and incredibly gentle and loving. Her foster mom fell for her immediately, and just like that, The Comeback Pack pulled Birdie to safety. Now she's settling into foster life, slowly relaxing and discovering one of the very best feelings in the world: realizing you're finally safe. Birdie will be spayed this week and then officially available for adoption. But if you're looking at that face and thinking you might already be in love, you don't have to wait. Welcome to your comeback, Birdie. You're safe now.

4. Spayed and Almost Ready

   September 11, 2026

   Goodbye potential baby mama era, hello fun aunty era: Birdie is spayed, and she'll officially be available for adoption very soon! From a long wait at the shelter to settling in like she's always belonged, this girl is everything you could want in a dog, and she's ready to give a family her all. Don't sleep on Birdie.

   

5. She Didn't Even Let Her Foster Meet the Other Dogs

   September 13, 2026

   The plan was simple: meet a few of the shelter's favorite dogs and decide who to foster. Birdie was first. The moment she walked into the courtyard, she went straight to her foster, pressed her little body against her legs, wagged her tail, and leaned in for pets. And that was that — her foster never met the other dogs. Birdie had done her job well. We don't know much about Birdie's first three years of life. We believe she's a Black Mouth Cur mix, about three years old and around 40 pounds. What we do know is that someone left her in the shelter's night drop, and nobody came looking for her. She quickly became a staff favorite, but being wonderful doesn't always get a dog out of an overcrowded shelter, so we stepped in. And the funny thing is, her foster already thought Birdie was pretty special when she chose her — then she got her home and discovered Birdie is somehow even better than expected. She's house trained, rides beautifully in the car, is doing great on walks, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. She's affectionate without being demanding, easygoing without being boring, and has apparently earned an advanced degree in professional snuggling. She doesn't currently live with cats or very young children, so we can't make promises, but based on her gentle nature, we suspect she'd do beautifully with them too. Birdie doesn't need someone to manage a long list of quirks. She just needs someone who deserves her — someone who will never leave her wondering where her people went again.

   

6. Someone's Heart Dog

   September 21, 2026

   Birdie's foster mom put it best: there isn't a single negative thing she can say about this girl. Whatever's been on your list of buts — good with other dogs, good with kids, calm and affectionate, walks nicely on leash, good in the car, house trained — Birdie checks every box. She's easygoing, loving, non-reactive, great off leash with solid recall, and the kind of dog who could fit beautifully into all kinds of homes. Despite all of that, she's had very little adoption interest so far. Her foster mom isn't in any hurry to see her go, but Birdie is doing everything right, and we truly believe she's going to be someone's heart dog. If you've ever caught yourself saying "I'd love to get a dog, but…" — Birdie might be exactly what you've been waiting for.

   

7. Still Available, Still Waiting

   September 24, 2026

   Birdie was supposed to meet someone this weekend, but her meet and greet was canceled before they ever got the chance to meet her. These things happen, and we'd be lying if we said we weren't a little sad for this girl. But maybe there's another way to look at it: maybe Birdie is still available because you're the person who's supposed to find her. She's easygoing, loving, great with other dogs and kids, house trained, wonderful in the car, and great on leash and off, and her foster mom still can't think of a single negative thing to say about her. So if you've been watching Birdie from a distance, maybe it's time to come meet her. The next meet and greet might be the one that sticks.

   

8. Adopted!

   September 27, 2026

   Another adoption to celebrate: Birdie has officially flown off to her forever family. She came to The Comeback Pack the same night as several other dogs, and it was one of her own fosters who came to the shelter and chose her — Birdie went straight for her heart and never let go. From that day forward, Birdie has been nothing short of incredible: sweet, gentle, affectionate, and easygoing. Her foster family gave her exactly what every rescue dog deserves — patience, love, and the chance to show who she really is — and because they did, Birdie found the forever family who'd been waiting for her all along. Happy forever, sweet girl. You earned this one.
