Every dog has a story
Lucy
Lucy is a sweet, gentle, easygoing black and white girl, about 10 years old, who lost her home and her family in a matter of days. She walked out of an overcrowded shelter into foster care, and she has now been adopted by two wonderful people. She's a little shy at first but loves affection and other dogs.

Their Journey So Far
Out of the Shelter
September 23, 2026Lucy, Roxy, and their friend Molly had lost their home and their person, and they landed in an overcrowded shelter, confused and waiting. That was when we made a promise: Operation No Dog Left Behind. Today all three walked out of the shelter, and Lucy has a foster home. She'll be given time to decompress, grieve in whatever way dogs grieve, and begin figuring out what life looks like now. We'll be here for her every step of the way.

How the Promise Started
September 24, 2026Roxy, Lucy and Molly belonged to Justine's father and stepmother. When her stepmother passed away and her father was hospitalized, the three dogs ended up at an overcrowded shelter. Justine reached out to us for help, and even in the middle of her own grief, she kept showing up for them: tracking down medical records, coordinating with the shelter, and telling us exactly what each dog needed. That's when we made a promise: Operation No Dog Left Behind. We weren't going to get one out, or two — we were going to get all three out alive, together. It took a small army — everyone who shared, applied, offered help, transported, coordinated or simply cared — to make that happen. Today, all three are safe. Roxy and Lucy each have a foster home. Molly is staying with Justine for now, but given everything she's carrying, that can only be temporary, and Molly still needs a foster of her own.
Reunited with Molly
October 1, 2026After both of their parents passed away, Lucy and her sister Molly ended up in the shelter together — and when we stepped in to save all three girls, we had to make a difficult decision. We didn't have a foster who could take more than one of them, so we split them up to get everyone out alive. Thankfully, all three have been doing well in their foster homes, but after Lucy and Molly lost their parents, their home, and then each other, we knew having that familiar face again might make this next chapter a little easier. Then Lucy's foster offered to take Molly too. Today, the sisters were reunited. Watching them see each other again after spending their entire lives side by side was such a beautiful moment. We're still evaluating their medical needs, so neither girl is available for adoption just yet, and while we'd love to find a home where they could stay together, they each connect well with other dogs too, so we don't believe they'll necessarily need to be adopted as a pair. For now, these sisters get to be together again. We're so thankful to the foster dad who opened his home to not one, but two large senior girls.
Doing So Well
October 4, 2026Our sweet golden girls are doing so well. We discovered that Lucy and Molly picked up some pretty yucky parasites during their time in the shelter. They're being treated now, and thankfully, they're feeling good and continuing to settle beautifully into foster care. And the more comfortable they get, the more we're learning about who they really are. It's really cute to see Lucy and Molly snuggled up together. They're sisters who love everyone, including each other. But one of the most important things we've learned in foster care is that they do just as well apart as they do together. Their foster dad has intentionally given them time apart so we can see how each girl does independently, and both have done beautifully. While they're very similar in a lot of ways, we're also starting to see their individual personalities emerge. Molly does great with other dogs, but she's also perfectly content being the only dog as long as she has plenty of human companionship. She's a little more outgoing, confident and independent. Lucy really thrives with canine companionship. She loves other dogs and has such a nurturing spirit. So if Lucy isn't adopted with Molly, we will require that her forever home have at least one other dog for her to hang out with. Both girls are incredibly sweet, affectionate, easygoing and well-mannered. And learning that they can thrive separately is really important to us. Of course, there's something undeniably heartwarming about imagining two sisters walking into the same forever home together. If the right home for both of them comes along, we would absolutely love that. But our job is to look beyond what makes the sweetest story and pay attention to what the dogs themselves are actually telling us they need. Lucy and Molly are individuals. They have different personalities, different needs, and potentially different ideal homes. Foster care gives us the opportunity to really get to know them, not just as the two sisters who arrived together, but as Lucy and Molly. And what they've shown us is incredibly reassuring: they are happy together, and they are happy apart. And we have to give a HUGE thank you to their foster dad. We're pretty sure he's some kind of dog wizard. The stressed-out girls who came home from the shelter are finally relaxed, comfortable and happy. We're seeing a completely different side of them now, and learning more about their personalities every single day. They're not quite ready for adoption yet, but they will be soon. So keep your eyes peeled if you've ever thought about giving a golden girl the best years of her life.
Ready for Her Forever Home
October 8, 2026Lucy is ready for her forever home, and this girl is the total package! Sweet, gentle, easygoing, and just the right amount of snuggly. Lucy is one of those dogs who makes you wonder how she hasn't been scooped up already! She's a little shy when you first meet her, but give her a little time and you'll discover a girl who absolutely loves affection and connection. She's super chill, loves other dogs, enjoys her walks and car rides, and would make an incredible companion in a calm, loving home. Lucy came into rescue with her sisters Molly and Roxy. Roxy has already found her forever home and is doing amazing! And while we'd absolutely love to see Lucy and Molly adopted together, we've spent a lot of time getting to know these girls and observing their relationship. The verdict? They're both independent ladies who can, and are, thriving separately! We do think Lucy would be happiest in a home with another canine companion, though. Low maintenance. High love. All-around amazing dog. Lucy checks all the boxes. Now she just needs someone to check the box that says adopt!
The Fifth Golden Girl
October 9, 2026Watch out, Miami! The fifth golden girl has been spotted in Murrieta, CA! Blanche had the men. Dorothy had the sarcasm. Rose had the stories. Sophia had the attitude. And Lucy? Lucy has the whole package. At 10 years young, this lovely lady is sweet, affectionate, easygoing, and an absolute delight to have around. She's a professional couch companion who also enjoys leisurely strolls and loves a good car ride. She's even game for a trip to the dog park! She's wonderful with other dogs and has been getting rave reviews from her foster dad! Unfortunately, Lucy's retirement plans were derailed when her owners passed away, leaving her and her sisters, Molly and Roxy, in an overcrowded shelter. But these Golden Girls got their second chance! Roxy has already found her forever home, and now Lucy and Molly are ready for theirs. The sisters are independent ladies and do not need to be adopted together, although we'd certainly welcome a double adoption! Lucy would especially love a home with another friendly dog. Lucy isn't looking for wild nights in Miami. She's looking for a comfy couch, a little companionship, the occasional joyride, and someone who appreciates a mature woman. Because the only thing better than watching The Golden Girls is adopting one.
The Dogs Have Unionized
October 9, 2026Breaking news: the dogs have unionized. Negotiations are underway, tensions are high, and management (aka their foster dad) is refusing to comment. Lucy and Molly are leading the charge, demanding better working conditions, increased treat compensation, and unrestricted access to the good spots on Dad's bed. A snuggle strike has been threatened, but sources close to the negotiations say neither girl has the self-control to follow through. In other news, Lucy is officially available for adoption! Molly is just a few steps behind her! These two 10-year-old sisters are sweet, hilarious, and full of personality. They can be adopted separately, although we're sure they'd happily negotiate a package deal.

Good for the Soul
October 11, 2026Lucy is the kind of dog who is just plain good for the soul. There's something incredibly special about this 10-year-old girl. She has the sweetest, gentlest, most calming presence, and spending time with her just makes the world feel a little better. Her amazing foster dad has given her a wonderful place to land, and these videos give you a little glimpse into life with Lucy. Even at the dog park, when the younger pups get a little rowdy with their roughhousing, Lucy just casually strolls by, surveys the situation, and goes about her business. She's wonderfully unbothered by the chaos around her! And don't let her age fool you. Lucy gets around beautifully, loves her walks, absolutely adores car rides, and we believe she has plenty of wonderful years ahead of her. She's fantastic with other dogs and would thrive in a home with at least one canine companion. Lucy's story started with heartbreak. Her owners passed away within about a week of each other, leaving Lucy and her doggy siblings homeless. They ended up in a high-kill shelter, where their futures were uncertain. We were able to rescue them, but rescue is only half the battle. Now we need to find Lucy the forever family she deserves, and oh my goodness, does she deserve one. Lucy has so much love left to give. She deserves to spend her golden years feeling safe, cherished, and completely adored. Please share Lucy! Somewhere out there is someone who needs exactly the kind of love and companionship this beautiful girl has to offer. We just need to help them find each other. Senior adoption fee: just $100! And with Seniors for Seniors, adults 65 and older can adopt one of our senior dogs with the adoption fee completely waived, though our normal adoption application and approval process still applies. Because sometimes the very best thing two old souls can do is find each other.
Lucy Is Adopted!
October 16, 2026Lucy is adopted! And we have some pretty wonderful people to thank for making this happy ending possible. Lucy was one of three senior dogs who lost their owners and suddenly found themselves in a high-kill shelter. At ten years old, the odds were not exactly in her favor. Thankfully, with the help of their former owners' family, we were able to step in before it was too late. And then came her foster, someone incredibly intelligent and resourceful with one of the biggest hearts we've ever seen. His passion for helping dogs is extraordinary, and when these ten-year-old seniors needed somewhere to go, he didn't hesitate to open his home. When nobody else stepped up, he did. We are so incredibly grateful. But today, we also want to give a huge shoutout to Lucy's wonderful adopters! We know Lucy is amazing. We know she's sweet, gentle, funny, and has so much life and love left to give. We believe our Golden Girls are every bit as deserving of forever homes as younger dogs. But we also know the reality: finding someone willing to open their heart to a ten-year-old dog isn't easy. And somehow, we found two very special people who looked at Lucy and saw exactly what we see. Not a dog who's too old, but a dog who's absolutely worth loving. These are the moments that remind us why we do what we do. A senior dog who lost everything. A foster who refused to let her face the world alone. And two wonderful people who have given her a beautiful new beginning. We're celebrating today, because this feels like a big win. Happy forever, sweet Lucy. You've always been a Golden Girl. Now you're somebody's golden girl.
