Every dog has a story

    Crowley

Crowley was one hour away from being euthanized when The Comeback Pack pulled him, and at the shelter he was frantic, overstimulated and fighting the leash. In foster care he became calm, sweet, gentle and affectionate, dog-friendly and cat-friendly. He has now been adopted and joined a family with a resident dog.

    Their Journey So Far

    1. Freedom Ride

      September 30, 2026

Yesterday, this boy was supposed to die. He was on the euthanasia list with a 2:00 p.m. deadline: no extension, no extra time, the unfortunate reality when shelters run out of space. But 2:00 came and went, and he was no longer in the shelter. He was in a car, headed toward safety. When we first heard about the eight dogs on the list, we hoped we could save one. Then people came together: fosters stepped up, volunteers dropped everything, plans were made, and somehow we were able to save three. Three lives that almost ended. They may not have understood what was coming at 2:00, but watching this video, we're pretty sure they understood this: they were safe, they were free, and they had been rescued. Welcome to The Comeback Pack, babies. Your comeback starts now. A few important thank-yous: the shelter we worked with was incredibly collaborative and moved quickly to process everything; Wendy and Kyle helped with transport; Blake stepped up to foster, and because Blake said yes, we were able to say yes to saving that third life; and everyone honoring their pledges. This is what rescue looks like: people coming together to make the save possible.

    2. Meet Crowley

      October 3, 2026

If we had judged this dog by who he was at the shelter, we might have left him there to die. When we pulled him, he was just one hour away from being euthanized, and he was frantic on a leash: fighting it, overstimulated, a lot. But a dog in that state is not who he really is. Give him a quiet place to sleep, consistency, people he can trust, and a chance for his nervous system to come down, and you slowly start meeting the dog underneath. Dale, as the shelter called him, has been in foster for only a few days, and the difference is already night and day. He's calm, sweet, gentle and affectionate. He wants to be with people instead of trying to get away, and he's accepting the leash and learning to walk on it. He's dog-friendly, cat-friendly, and an all-around really good boy. Is he completely decompressed? Not even close, and that takes time. But he's showing us a whole different side of himself, so he deserved a new name to go with it. For everyone who followed Dale on the euthanasia list, meet Crowley. He isn't quite ready for adoption yet; we want to give him more time to decompress and learn what life outside a kennel feels like, but he'll be listed soon. And please remember this the next time you see a shelter dog who is scared, shut down, frantic or just a lot: give them a little grace. The dog you're seeing in that moment may be completely out of their element, and you might be amazed by who they become.

    3. We Take It All Back

      October 7, 2026

Crowley, we take it all back! When we first pulled Crowley from the shelter, we were thinking, "Uh-oh. What have we gotten ourselves into?" Well, we'd like to formally retract every bad thing we said about this dog. Because within 24 hours, Crowley was a completely different dog. Turns out, he was just incredibly stressed at the shelter. And now that he's in a foster home? This guy is awesome. Crowley is smart, exceptionally friendly, eager to please, great with other dogs, and just an all-around cool dude. He's already been on several outings and behaved like an absolute gentleman. Seriously, we were blown away! And did we mention he's crate trained and rides great in the car? Does he have puppy energy? Of course! He's playful, goofy, and loves an adventure. But he also knows how to relax. He's actually a really well-balanced dog who doesn't need hours of exercise every day. We think he'd love a home with another playful dog or an active family who wants to include him in their adventures. Brewery buddy? Yes. Hiking companion? Yes. Boating buddy? Absolutely. Road trip copilot? Already a pro. Crowley is the kind of dog who makes life more fun just by being part of it. And to think we almost let his shelter behavior fool us. Crowley, buddy, we're sorry we ever doubted you.

    4. Crowley Gets the Royal Treatment

      October 9, 2026

Crowley has officially discovered the finer things in life, and we fear there's no going back. Our handsome boy enjoyed a fun outing to Baily's Old Town, where he received the royal treatment! Crowley is such a great dog, and watching him blossom has been one of the sweetest parts of his comeback. Every single day, he gets a little more comfortable, a little more confident, and a little closer to the amazing dog we always knew he could be. From being just an hour away from euthanasia to enjoying a day out on the town like the VIP he is. A huge thank you to Baily's Old Town for treating Crowley like royalty and giving him such a fun experience! Outings like these are so valuable for our rescue dogs, giving them opportunities to explore the world, build confidence, and show everyone just how wonderful they are. Crowley's next big adventure? Finding his forever family!

    5. Crowley Is Part of the Cool Club

      October 24, 2026

Crowley is officially part of the cool club! Our sweet boy Crowley, one of the three dogs we rescued from a city shelter, has officially found his forever home! Now, we may be a little late with this announcement, but there's a good reason. Crowley actually went home several days ago, and we wanted to give his new family a little time to make sure their resident dog was willing to let the new guy into the cool club. Well, the votes are in, and Crowley made the cut! He's officially part of the pack, and his new family absolutely adores him. We are so incredibly thankful for adopters like these, who open their hearts and homes and give rescue dogs the chance they deserve. Crowley was scheduled to be euthanized at 2:00 p.m. the day we rescued him. We got him out at 1:00 p.m. Just one hour stood between Crowley and the end of his life. And now? He has a family, a furry sibling, and a whole lifetime of love ahead of him. This is why we do what we do, and this is why adopters who give rescue dogs a chance mean absolutely everything to us. Crowley, sweet boy, we couldn't be happier for you. You deserve every bit of this beautiful life, buddy. Happy tails, Crowley!
