Every dog has a story

    Bumphrey Hogart

Bumphrey Hogart is a young, friendly 35-pound dog who was scheduled for euthanasia when The Comeback Pack learned about him. A transporter, a temporary foster and a regular foster all came together in a few hours, and he got out. He's incredibly friendly, sweet and happy-go-lucky, and fully convinced that he's the perfect size for a lap dog. He's crate trained, hilarious, and now officially ready for adoption.

    Their Journey So Far

    1. Out Before the Deadline

      October 3, 2026

Just this morning, we learned about a young dog sitting in a shelter with a deadline of 2 PM today. He's young, only about 30 pounds, friendly, and he was almost out of time. A few hours is not a lot of time to pull together everything it takes to save a dog, but we had to try. Once again, the angels stepped forward. In just a few hours we found a transporter, a temporary foster, and a regular foster willing to take him in. The shelter was collaborative and efficient, everyone moved quickly, and somehow all the pieces fell into place. We got him out. This morning, Humphrey was sitting in a shelter with a 2 PM deadline. Tonight, he's safe. Welcome, Humphrey. Your comeback begins here. We're so excited for you to start your new life, buddy, and we just know great things are waiting for you.

    2. Meet Bumphrey Hogart

      October 5, 2026

Bumphrey Hogart. This little 30-pound heart-stealer came this close to never getting his chance. On Saturday, Bumphrey was scheduled for euthanasia. Instead, a whole group of people scrambled to put the pieces together just in time, and this ridiculously adorable, pocket-sized lap dog got his comeback. And wow, did we get lucky with this one. Bumphrey is incredibly friendly, sweet, happy-go-lucky, and fully convinced that 30 pounds is the perfect size for a lap dog. He could use a little help polishing up his potty-training skills, but frankly, that's the easy stuff. You can teach potty training. You can't teach a great personality, and boy, does Bumphrey have one. Once he's neutered, he'll officially be ready for adoption. But for now, we need to thank the people who made sure he got the chance to get there: the volunteer who dropped everything to pick him up and then stepped in as his temporary foster; the foster who opened her home to an urgent foster dog, which made room within our rescue for Bumphrey; the shelter staff, for being so cooperative and collaborative and helping us get him safely out the door; and every single person who shared his post, offered help, and helped us put the pieces together to make this rescue a reality. Bumphrey Hogart, you almost didn't get a tomorrow. We're so incredibly glad you're here for it.

    3. Officially Ready for Adoption

      October 10, 2026

Bumphrey Hogart has a very important question for you: are you coming to give him pets at our next Foster Pup Social? Wednesday, October 14, 5:30 PM, at Grey Iron Brewing Company in Menifee, with the costume contest prize provided by Kahoots Feed and Pet in Menifee. Because this little death-row-turned-bundle-of-joy has some big news: Bumphrey is officially ready for adoption! Just days ago, this adorable little guy was facing euthanasia at an overcrowded shelter. Today? He's living his best life, making everyone laugh, and proving that 100 pounds of personality can absolutely fit inside a 35-pound dog. Bumphrey is ridiculously friendly, outgoing, affectionate, and absolutely hilarious. He's got enough gumption for three dogs, loves people, and approaches life with the enthusiasm of someone who knows he just got a second chance. He's also a potential hiking buddy and a confirmed water enthusiast. In fact, we've caught him dipping his, um, golf balls in the water bowl to cool off. Apparently, that felt so nice that he eventually climbed his entire body into the bowl and made himself comfortable. He's already crate trained, too! And his personality? Absolutely perfect. Come give this little survivor some love on Wednesday! And if you happen to fall head over heels for him, well, he's accepting applications for a permanent position as your best friend.

    4. Officially Neutered

      October 13, 2026

Bumphrey Hogart no longer has any tea bags to steep in the water bowl. But don't worry, he's still an absolute riot! For those who missed it, Bumphrey recently discovered the luxurious sensation of dangling his family jewels in his foster family's water bowl. After several minutes of soaking, he decided to climb all the way in and enjoy a full-body spa treatment. Well, we're pleased to announce that Bumphrey has officially been neutered! The balls are gone. The legend lives on. And this 35-pound bundle of hilarity is ready for adoption! Bumphrey was rescued from euthanasia with just an hour to spare, and he's been making us laugh ever since. He's outgoing, adventurous, great with other dogs, and absolutely loves people. He's got a little mischief in him, but underneath all that comedy is one incredibly affectionate boy who lives for couch cuddles and ear rubs. He's still polishing up his manners, but we can promise you one thing: life with Bumphrey Hogart will never be boring. He's lost his balls, but he's still got 100 pounds of personality packed into that 35-pound body.

    5. His Resume Is Stacked

      October 19, 2026

Bumphrey Hogart has never worked a day in his life, but his resume is absolutely stacked. Professional burrito sharer. Certified vacuum guardian. Undefeated tug-of-war champion. And currently accepting applications for the position of Your Favorite Idiot. At approximately 35 pounds, Bumphrey is part pug, part professional wrestler, and full-time household entertainment director. But underneath all that silliness is a genuinely amazing dog. Bumphrey is affectionate, friendly, playful, and incredibly snuggly. He's a competitive fetch athlete, loves a good game of tug, and gets along with other dogs with proper introductions. He's also surprisingly well behaved at home! He's fully crate trained, settles down nicely, and is just an all-around wonderful little companion. Now, let's discuss his professional development opportunities. Bumphrey is a decent leash walker, but his aspirations of becoming a sophisticated brewery buddy are currently a little ahead of his qualifications. He has mastered the art of being a very good boy at home and a complete public nuisance. A little training and some practice with public manners would go a long way. We are genuinely surprised that this adorable little character hasn't received a single application. Not one! He's funny, he's sweet, he's ridiculously entertaining, and at the end of the day, he just wants someone to love and snuggle. Bumphrey Hogart would like to formally apply for the position of your new best friend.

    6. The Most Adorable Maniac

      October 22, 2026

Bumphrey Hogart: the most adorable maniac this side of the Mississippi. This 35-pound, pocket-sized lunatic is equal parts adventure buddy, professional athlete, and giant baby. He's an undefeated fetch and tug champion, loves absolutely everyone, and thinks being carried upside down like an actual infant, with all four paws in the air, is the height of luxury. His foster dad obliges. Regularly. Bumphrey is smart, trainable, affectionate, and does great with other dogs with proper introductions. He's also an excellent copilot and loves an adventure! Hiking? Yes. Long walks? Absolutely. A trip to the park? Grab the keys. Sitting quietly on a brewery patio while you sip a craft beer? Let's not get carried away. He might also spend the first few minutes of your walk arguing with his leash (with his teeth), but he eventually remembers he's a civilized gentleman and gets with the program. Underneath all that hilarious chaos is a genuinely wonderful dog who loves his people, loves life, and is basically just an oversized baby in a compact, ridiculously adorable package. Bumphrey Hogart is ready to bring some serious entertainment and a whole lot of love into your life.

    7. Just a Little Baby

      October 25, 2026

Bumphrey really just wants to be your widdle baby. This 35-pound orphan is happiest when he's held and cuddled like an infant, belly up and completely relaxed. He's available for adoption in Murrieta, CA.

    8. Our Sour Patch Kid

      October 29, 2026

At just 35 pounds, Bumphrey is a whole lot of love in a perfectly portable package! We think he's a Pug mix, and boy, does he have that Pug personality. He's basically a Sour Patch Kid in dog form: a little sassy, a whole lot of sweet, and absolutely impossible not to love. Bumphrey is looking for someone to adore, someone who will play fetch with him, challenge him to a game of tug (good luck winning!), and appreciate his goofy personality. Underneath all that spunk is a bundle of love with the most irresistible puppy-dog eyes. And here's the part we just don't understand: we've had absolutely zero interest in this adorable little guy. Not one person asking to meet him. We know his person is out there, someone who will love his quirks, laugh at his antics, and think he's the greatest little dog on the planet. So here's your sign! If adopting isn't in the cards right now, a share only takes a second, and you could be the reason this boy finds his person.

    9. Not One Application

      October 31, 2026

What's a boy gotta do to get noticed around here?! Seriously. Bumphrey Hogart has been dressing up ALL season long, looking absolutely ridiculous and adorable, and has received NOT ONE APPLICATION. Our 35-pound pumpkin is a loving, silly little goofball who we think is a Pug mix. He's dog friendly, full of personality, and just an all-around good time. He's the kind of dog who will keep you laughing and then look at you with those big puppy-dog eyes like he's never done anything wrong in his life. Seriously, how has nobody scooped up this little Sour Patch Kid?! Please consider giving Bumphrey the home he's been waiting for. And if you can't adopt, please SHARE! His person might be one share away.
